on this day
[ 13.7.1983 ]
An auspicious day for politics. In 1983 the House of Commons voted 361-245 against the restoration of the death penalty, and 13.7.2016 is the day Teresa May became PM of the UK after David Cameron's resignation.
It's sobering to think that only 32 years ago, there was a vote to reintroduce the death penalty. It's even more sobering to think that, if voted on today - the results might be different.
