Inspiration from classic book covers
Bryan Cooke's Landscapes of Britain has to be one of the most thumbed books here in the office. His work documenting the landscapes of Britain influenced us to use a minimal colour palette in our latest commissioned by Alpkit.
Restricting the colour palette you use for a project can be a great way to generate ideas and forcing you into a different style. It certainly took a lot of trial and error to get the tones to work together well. The piece started as monochromatic, and slowly transitioned into the 5 colour palette you see below.
The work garnered a lot of attention when it was raised in Hathersage. Gaining over 1050 views on Instagram alone. The classic illustration style married with the iconic Stanage means the piece is well suited to the village.
